I did tell Sis. Schloss that I was from Surprise, Arizona..(I received a text with a picture of Elder McMullan and his Companion, Elder Harris!) but that was only after she recognized my last name and asked me if I was from Arizona. She did tell me that she knew a couple of the families from the ward before they left that area.
My birthday was alright and of course our Dinner that night happened to be with one of the Bishops of the Church Wards we go to. We had Cheeseburgers with the family and they gave us some Cake they got from the store. Unfortunately we didn't get to eat dessert with them because of a meeting after that but I still got to blow out the candles. (I also got a sweet text the day after his bday with a video and picture of Matthew blowing out his candles!) SO MANY TENDER MERCIES!!!
Elder Calio is staying in his last area which is very exciting. I hope that the investigator invites the spirit more into their home because I want the life they are living to be improved.
My new Companion is Elder Harris. He is from Manassa, Colorado which only has around 1000 people living in the area. He lived on a Ranch where he would work with his father. I guess it took him time to get used to a big place like Mesa when he first came out. He has been on his mission for 20 months and is scheduled to leave in the beginning of July. He is a pretty nice companion and he really knows his Scriptures well. I am guessing it comes from all of the markings on his Quad....., while mine has no markings at all. I guess I would rather keep my Scriptures clean just like my body. We live with a member named Harold Hubbard who is 88 years old and is one of the nicest guys I have met on this mission. He lives alone with his Dog who looks the same as the one from the Kjar house hold. The only difference between the two would be that it is a bit bigger in weight. We are trying to teach the dog to go through the Dog door again which it has not done for months. Brother Hubbard had been married twice and on Saturday he had a Family Reunion with both sides of the family. He said it was the best day of his life to see so many people show up to an event he planned for over a month. He also makes Wooden Pens for himself and Missionaries that live in his home. I got a Pen using Pomegranate Wood that came from his backyard. Brother Hubbard also makes rugs which take about 3 to 6 months to complete but look fantastic when they are finished. I want to know some of his skills that he has learned in his life. There is a Furniture Item on Club Penguin that I would like a replica on a rug or as a painting. I believe it was called the Sunset Painting and it depicts a Penguin on the beach looking at the sunset. Something about it makes it look so peaceful to look at and picture in my head.
We don't drive everywhere as we prefer biking from place to place, but there are some times in the day where it is efficient for us to use. We are using a Toyota Corolla to get around and I believe it is a 2016 model. I haven't emailed Elder Calio at this time but I plan on contacting him again in the future. Elder Harris is a great companion and I hope we will stay in contact after his service is over. I am sure that the next five weeks will go over well.
Nice to hear that life back at home has been going well and that you got released as a Sunday School Teacher. Also with President Ellis saying that I will go back to LDS Family Services I am fine with that. I just hope that when I do go there that I get the opportunity to serve outside of the Country. However most people I have talked to that know missionaries who have served a Trial Mission, said they served in the states after that. While Location is not that big of an issue I am a bit concerned that LDS Family Services is refusing those who served trial Missions to serve outside of the country. While I have been diagnosed with a couple things in my past I don't see why I shouldn't be allowed to serve outside of the country as I don't need Medication and I have a Passport that I can use. I just hope that there are Trial Missionaries that I haven't met yet that have gone outside of the Country to serve the remainder of their mission. Anyways I hope to hear back from you soon. - "
" We were so happy to have Elder McMullan over for dinner on Sat to celebrate his bday! We wanted to share this with you. I'm so glad that his comp knew and texted us before they came to dinner. They were a little rushed, so they took some cake with them and we gave him a $20 gift card to Dairy Queen that hopefully he can use another time! :) Sis Carolyn Eldredge"
Sis. Schloss sent this to a sister in our ward, who she is still in contact with. She used to be in our ward years ago and recognized his last name! See what I mean with the tender mercies??!!! <3
